IND vs ENG Day 3 was lit up with some excellent cricketing action along with a moment of frustration from Rishabh Pant when the India wicketkeeper angrily flung the ball in protest after the on-field umpire declined an appeal to change it.
The incident occurred during the first hour of play, as umpire Chris Gaffaney stuck to his decision despite requests from Indian players.
Incidentally, it was Jasprit Bumrah who appealed for a ball change but was turned down. It was then that Pant decided to take matters into his own hands and approached Gaffaney. But when he was rebuffed, the southpaw could not control his emotions. The crowd instantly responded instantly with loud jeers.
The tension didn’t stop there as skipper Shubman Gill approached Gaffaney in the following over to discuss the ball’s condition once more.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri, on commentary, offered a warning: “It's not worth going to the umpire. Shubman Gill should ask everyone [to] just wait for 4-5 overs, then go. This is only going to irritate the umpires further.”
The issue with the ball finally ended in the 74th over when it passed the ring test. After trying many times, they got the ball changed as Bumrah took the red cherry.
Meanwhile, earlier Ollie Pope and his latest century helped England fight back after India was bowled out for 471. However, the Three Lions lost the wickets of Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes in the first session but Harry Brook has kept the scoring rate high.
