Harry Brook tormented India for 111 balls he was at the crease, but his luck ran out at the worst possible moment, one short of a magnificent century. Brook put on a show at Headingley, scoring 11 fours and two sixes, but was dismissed for 99 by Prasidh Krishna. The England stalwart wanted to get to the landmark with a big one, but top-edged the delivery to Shardul Thakur to long leg.
Brook was the seventh wicket to fall for England. England started the day with three wickets down and lost Ollie Pope early. The loss of a wicket, however, had little effect on England as they continued to pile on runs with ease. Brook was the aggresor out there and played crisp shots while he also got support from Jamie Smith, who played a brisk innings of 40. Brook's innings meant that England crossed the 400-run mark in the first innings and got close to India's first innings score of 471.

India Themselves To Blame

England are just 42 runs shy of India's first innings total at the time of writing, and it won't be wrong to say they'll have to play really bad cricket to lose from here. The best India could do from here is to secure a draw. India would be disappointed how they let the game slip away. They were in a great position at 430-3 and looked set to post a score around the 600 run mark; however, they collapsed and were bowled out for 471, which was just about a par score on a flat surface.
More so, the team was poor with the ball. Barring Bumrah, all other bowlers struggled to keep the England batting in check. They were horrible in a field as well and dropped multiple catches, with three coming off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah.
