Ravindra Jadeja, VVS Laxman, Mahela Jayawardene and Brendon McCullum are reportedly among those who are yet to receive a part of their salaries from Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KRK). The franchise participated in the fourth season of IPL in 2011. The BCCI terminated the franchise's contract after just one season. Earlier this week, the Bombay High Court upheld the arbitral awards passed in 2015.
The BCCI has to pay Rs 285.50 crore to Kochi Cricket Private Limited and Rs 153.34 crore to Rendezvous Sports World. "The jurisdiction of this Court under Section 34 of the Arbitration Act is very limited. BCCI's endeavour to delve into the merits of the dispute is in teeth of the scope of the grounds contained in Section 34 of the Act. BCCI's dissatisfaction as to the findings rendered in respect of the evidence and/or the merits cannot be a ground to assail the Award," the court said in its order.
"The conclusion of the learned Arbitrator namely that BCCI had wrongfully invoked the bank guarantee which amounted to a repudiatory breach of the KCPL-FA would call for no interference under Section 34 of the Arbitration Act considering that this is based on a correct appreciation of the evidence on record."
Following the court's order, Mathrubhumi has reported that even players haven't received their full payment yet. The franchise reportedly paid the first two instalments of the players' salaries. They are yet to receive their third instalment, which was 35 percent of their respective salaries.
The report adds that Mahela Jayawardene is yet to receive more than Rs 2 crore while Brendon McCullum has yet to receive a sum of Rs 75 lakh (approx). S Sreesanth, Steve Smith and Parthiv Patel are among former KTK players who are yet to receive a part of their respective salaries.
Kochi managed 6 wins from 14 matches to finish in the 8th position in the points table. Chennai Super Kings won their second IPL title in 2011 with a win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final.
