Rishabh Pant continued his purple patch against England and scored his 4th century against them in Test cricket. Rishabh, who made his Test debut against England in 2018, has always enjoyed punishing their bowlers and there was no stopping him in India's first innings of the series opener in Leeds.
Batting with a strike rate of 75.28, Rishabh slammed 134 off 178 balls. The left-handed batsman hit 6 sixes and 12 fours in his knock. Centuries from Rishabh, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal propelled India to a total of 471 in their first innings.
Rishabh Pant creates world record
Rishabh Pant created history with his fourth Test century against England and he now holds the world record of slamming the most Test tons by a wicketkeeper against the Three Lions. He moved ahead of Tom Latham, Adam Gilchrist, Ian Healy and Brad Haddin. All four former wicketkeeper-batsmen hit 3 centuries each against England.
Rishabh now has 4 tons and can increase his tally in the years to come. Budhi Kunderan and Denesh Ramdin hit 2 centuries each against England.
Rishabh scored his first Test ton against England in the fifth Test of his debut series. In 2021, Rishabh Pant scored his second Test ton against them. He hit a century in the one-off Test against England in 2022. And 3 years later, he created the world record with his 4th Test century.
Overall, Rishabh has 7 centuries in Test cricket. He has one century each against Australia, Bangladesh and South Africa. He was dismissed for 99 in a Test match against New Zealand in October 2024.
England bounce back
England bounced back on the second day of the Test match to dismiss India for a score of 471. The visitors lost their fourth wicket with 430 runs on the board.
Jasprit Bumrah was the only Indian bowler who enjoyed success on day 2. He dismissed Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and Joe Root. England finished day 2 with a score of 209/3 on the board.
