Shubman Gill-led India are set to take on England in a five-match Test series, starting June 20. The series will kick off a new era in Indian cricket as it will be India's first England tour, since 2011, without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both India legends announced their Test retirements in May. Shubman was handed the Test team's charge and he is set to make his captaincy debut on June 20.
Shubman was scheduled to land in England early and was slated to play the second unofficial Test match against England Lions. The fixture will be played from June 6 to 9. It was recently reported that Shubman will miss the fixture.
After Shubman, another India player is now set to miss the second unofficial Test match. The Times of India has reported that Sai Sudharsan will also skip the fixture. He and Shubman were slated to join the team before the second game.
Sudharsan, who is capped in ODIs and T20Is, will land in England with the Test team. He is a strong contender to get his maiden Test cap during the series.
Sudharsan shone in IPL 2025 and with 759 runs, he holds the Orange Cap. He is set to win the cap for the first time in history.
KL Rahul to play for India A
While Shubman and Sudharsan will miss the second unofficial Test match, KL Rahul is set to be part of the fixture. The opening batsman wasn't named in the original squad.
Rahul looks all but set to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first Test and he decided to play a red-ball game in England before the start of the international series. Abhimanyu Easwaran will continue to lead India A.
Meanwhile, the first unofficial Test match between the two teams ended in a draw. Karun Nair slammed a double-century in the first innings to stake a claim for a place in the playing XI in the series opener.
