Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, IPL 2025 final, Ahmedabad: After 74 gripping matches played over 65 unforgettable days, we finally have two teams worthy of battling for the coveted IPL 2025 trophy.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, having won the first Qualifier against Punjab Kings of IPL 2025, had already qualified for the final. Punjab Kings got a second shot to qualify for the summit clash in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians, owing to their brilliant run in the league stages of the tournament and topping the points table. And they grabbed the opportunity with both hands, defeating Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets to cement their place in the championship showdown.
RCB will take on PBKS on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in the final of IPL 2025, set to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, and it will be a battle of the reds, guaranteeing a new champion. RCB had previously qualified for the final in 2009, 2011, and 2016 before this season, and Kohli was part of all three, while PBKS (formerly Kings XI Punjab) made it to the summit clash only once before this in 2014.
Renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for his epic, action, and fantasy genre movies, rightly pointed out that whether Bengaluru basks in the glory of IPL triumph or Punjab soaks in the joy of IPL 2025 victory, one thing is certain — someone will walk away in tears, for this IPL final promises heartbreak.
Former India captain Virat Kohli has been with RCB ever since its inception in 2008, and while he has every trophy in his cabinet in white-ball cricket, the Indian Premier League silverware has somehow eluded him. Having already retired from Tests and T20Is, the 37-year-old has now reached the last stretch of his career, with maybe a couple of years left in his kitty. And this is the undeniable truth — a moment that every sportsperson must confront one day in their life, with Kohli being no exception. It goes without saying that it is now or never for one of the greats, if not the greatest in white-ball cricket.
Shreyas Iyer, who is the captain of PBKS, has the distinction of taking Delhi Capitals (DC) to the final of the Indian Premier League and then Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title. Ironically, he was not retained by KKR in the mega-auction, while DC chose Rishabh Pant over him as captain for reasons best known to them.
Both Kohli and Iyer deserve the title this season, but there can only be one winner on Tuesday. No matter who wins, the IPL 2025 final will leave someone heartbroken.
