Former India all-rounder and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, Roger Binny has been sitting in the highest position in Indian Cricket Administration, as he has been the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since Sourav Ganguly's departure from the position in 2022. Now, we are set to get another BCCI president, as Binny's tenure is set to end. A current member of the top brass of the BCCI is set to replace him.
According to a report by India Today, current BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla is set to replace Roger Binny as the interim president of the BCCI. Shukla's initial tenure will be for the next three months i.e, till September 2025. He will preside over the duties of the president until a new person is selected to fill the esteemed position in India's apex cricketing body
A similar situation arose when Jay Shah had to leave his post of BCCI secretary when he was selected as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Devajeet Saikia was elected as the interim secretary till he was made permanent later.
Rajeev Shukla has had a long and storied career in cricket administration. He was the former secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). He also served as the chairman of the IPL from 2011 to 2018. In 2020, Shukla was elected unopposed as the BCCI vice-president and was re-elected in the post in 2022.
Why Roger Binny Is Stepping Away As BCCI President
Roger Binny is currently 69 years old and will turn 70 on July 19, 2025. He will thus pass the current age limit set by the BCCI to hold a post in the board. Hence, he will step away from his current position.
Binny has played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India during his playing days. He played important roles in India's two biggest triumphs in cricketing history- the 1983 World Cup, and the 1985 World Championship of Cricket. In both tournaments, he finished as the tournament's highest wicket-taker.
