Heinrich Klaasen brought down the curtains on his international career on Monday (June 2) and announced a shock retirement. Klaasen, who shot to fame after his brilliant performance in the T20I series against India early in 2018, played 4 Tests, 60 ODIs and 58 T20Is. Klaasen scored 104 runs in Tests, 2141 runs in ODIs and 1000 runs in T20Is. He last played for SA in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The fans must be wondering whether Klaasen will continue to play IPL or not? Has he also retired from IPL? The answer is no. Heinrich Klaasen has not retired from IPL.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has only retired from international cricket. "It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket. It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision but also one that I have absolute peace with," a part of his Instagram post reads.
Klaasen was part Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025. He was retained for a huge sum of Rs 23 before the mega-auction. The right-handed batsman finished the tournament as SRH's highest run-scorer and piled up 487 runs at an average of 44.27.
Batting with a strike rate of 172.69, Klaasen smashed 25 sixes and 42 boundaries. His tally of 487 runs includes one century and a half-century. It remains to be seen if SRH decide to keep his services for the next season. They can re-sign him in the mini-auction if the management decides to release him.
SRH only managed to win 6 out of 14 matches and finished at the sixth spot in the points table. The Pat Cummins-led side crashed out of the tournament early. They finished the tournament on a high note and won their last three matches.
