ICC Chairman Jay Shah met UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin in Munich on Friday prior to the Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, which will be played at the Allianz Arena on Saturday night (12:30 AM IST).
Jay Shah took to social media to announce his visit to Munich, posting a photograph with the UCL trophy and UEFA President Čeferin.
"Honoured to represent cricket in Munich ahead of the @championsleague Final and have discussions with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin," Shah posted on X.
While cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world, it is yet to make a substantial footprint in Europe, besides England.
"It's always valuable to spend time with other sporting leaders as the @ICC expands our sport's global reach," he wrote further.
ICC has global outreach programmes to expand cricket's bases across the world. Its flagship community outreach programme, named ‘Cricket for Good’, aims to use the sport’s power to impact children and families worldwide, addressing problems like nutrition deficiency, education, and child protection.
Meanwhile, PSG and Inter Milan will lock horns in a high-octane final. The final will mark a special moment for Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain’s Moroccan right-back, who won the Serie A title with Inter four years back.
Hakimi, a member of Morocco's 2022 World Cup semifinalist team, is one of the best full-backs in the world. He has also scored and assisted 22 goals this season.
This will be PSG's first final since 2020, when it reached the UCL final for the first time. They lost the final 0-1 to Bayern Munich, courtesy of a Kingsley Coman goal in the 59th minute.
On the other hand, Inter will look to avenge its final loss against Manchester City in 2023 and win its fourth European trophy.
