Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer was subbed out and the visiting team brought in Harpreet Brar as an Impact Player at the start of Rajasthan Royals' (RR) chase in the 59th match of IPL 2025. Iyer is PBKS' captain and it was a surprising call from the franchise. But they had no other option and were forced to do so.
Shreyas Iyer is down with a finger injury and isn't fit to field. Hence, PBKS were forced to keep him out. Shashank Singh, who is uncapped in international cricket, is leading PBKS. Iyer came out for the toss and they batted first. The right-handed batsman scored 30 off 25 balls before being dismissed.
Nehal Wadhera shone with the bat and slammed 70 off just 37 balls. Batting with a strike rate of 189.19, he hit 5 sixes and as many boundaries in his knock. Prabhsimran Singh scored a quick 21 off 10 balls.
Shashank gave a perfect finish to PBKS and slammed an unbeaten 59 off 30 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 196.67 and hit 3 sixes. PBKS put on a big total of 220/5 on the board. RR were off to a quick start and scored 51 runs in the first 3 overs.
IPL 2025 points table
With 3 wins from 12 matches, Rajasthan Royals are at the 9th spot in the IPL 2025 points table and they are already out of the tournament. They would want to avoid a last-place finish.
With 7 wins from 11 matches, PBKS are at the third spot. They will all but qualify for the playoffs with a win over RR. A defeat here will extend their wait to make it to the playoffs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru acquire the top spot and are followed by Gujarat Titans (GT). GT will regain the top spot if they defeat Delhi Capitals later today (May 18).
