India A will tour England for an unofficial Test series and face England Lions in two games before the start of the India-England Test series. A few players who will be part of the Test squad have been named in the India A team. Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead the visiting team in the series.
The BCCI has appointed a new India A head coach. VVS Laxman, the present chief of BCCI's Centre of Excellence, will not travel with the team to England. He has previously worked with India A cricket team. The BCCI has appointed Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the team's head coach.
The former India batsman has been part of the BCCI's system for few years and will now coach India A. Kanitkar played 34 ODIs and 2 Tests. He scored 10400 runs in 146 first-class matches.
The first unofficial Test match will be played from May 30 to June 2 in Canterbury. The second game will be played in Northampton from June 6 to 9.
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will join the team before the second game. Shubman could take over the captaincy if he is named the Test team's captain. The Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee appointed Dhruv Jurel as the vice-captain of the team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana and Sarfaraz Khan are among the confirmed selections in the Test team. They have also been named in the India A team.
After the two unofficial Test matches, India A will take on Team India in an intra-squad match. This game might not have a first-class status. It will be played from June 13 to 16 in Beckenham.
