KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Mitchell Starc will not play anymore part in IPL 2025
- Mustafizur Rahman has replaced Jake Fraser-McGurk
- DC have 3 league stage matches after the restart
Delhi Capitals will take the field in their first match of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season since the league restarted against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday (May 18) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium without the services of star pacer Mitchell Starc.
Infact, Starc will not just miss DC's clash against GT but will not be available for any remaining match of the season for the Capitals. The legendary Australian pacer will be missing from action when DC face Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday (May 21) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday (May 24).
If DC qualify for the playoffs, Starc will not be available.
Why Mitchell Starc Is Missing From Delhi Capitals' Remaining IPL 2025 Campaign
Starc has decided not to return from Australia after the league's resumption, after the league was suspended for a week. For those unversed, several overseas players left India and went back to their home countries, with the future of the league uncertain.
Although the Capitals did not make an offical confirmation, several media reports revealed that Starc decided against coming up with the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final looming where Australia will face South Africa from June 11 at Lords in hopes of defending their title and becoming the first team to win the trophy twice.
Starc is DC's highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025 so far with 14 wickets in 11 matches.
DC have not yet named a replacement for Starc but has signed a left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, as a temporary replacement for Jake-Fraser McGurk, who pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
However, there is doubt over whether Mustafizur will be allowed to play the playoffs as his No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is only for the league stage games.
DC are currently fifth in the table with 13 points and will qualify for the playoffs if they win their remaining matches.
