Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma has been felicitated by the Mumbai Cricket Association at the Wankhede Stadium on May 16, 2025.

Rohit Sharma was at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday with his family as the Indian ODI captain was felicitated by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which named the Divecha Level 3 stand at the iconic ground after him.
Rohit, who recently retired from Test cricket, attended the ceremony along with his parents, Gurunath and Purnima, wife Ritika Sajdeh, brother Vishal Sharma and some of his closest friends.
His parents, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, pressed the button to unveil the stage, accompanied by fireworks in the background.
As the family was departing the stadium, the great Indian opener spotted a scratch on his car. Vexed by the matter, he started interrogating his brother Vishal Sharma regarding the situation. However, it was all smiles, as the brothers were in good spirits and soon broke into laughter.
Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this month. He bid farewell to T20I cricket after the T20 World Cup final in Barbados last year.
The 37-year-old played 67 Tests and scored 4,301 runs. His highest Test score, 212, came during a memorable series against South Africa in 2019. In T20I cricket, he scored 4,231 runs from 159 matches at an average of 32.05.
Rohit will continue to play in the ODIs, where he scored 11168 runs at an average of 48.76.
Rohit's decision to retire before the England series, starting June 20, left the captain's position vacant. With Virat Kohli also retiring from Test cricket, Indian cricket has found itself in a transition phase, with youngsters expected to fill the big shoes in the coming years.
