Delhi Capitals (DC) had run into a bit of a mess as the IPL 2025 is all set to resume after from May 17 after a week of being suspended due to the tensions between India and Pakistan. A bunch of their players, including crucial names like Mitchell Starc, have confirmed that they would not return to play for the franchise. Faf du Plessis was also one of the names who were reported to opt out of the tournament. However, it now appears that he has taken a U-turn in his decision, while DC have also found a replacement to Starc for just three games.
Faf Du Plessis To Return
According to an earlier report by ESPN Cricinfo, Faf du Plessis had confirmed that he would not return to India for the remainder of the IPL 2025. However, ESPN Cricinfo now reports that he has confirmed his availability for the rest of the IPL, thus taking a massive U-turn in his decision, as DC can now breathe a sigh of relief.
Du Plessis has been crucial as an opener for DC, and being the most experienced name in the lineup, was also part of the leadership group at the franchise. Tristan Stubbs is also set to return for DC, but will only be available till May 26, since he has been named in the South Africa squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.

Mustafizur Rahman Cleared To Play
Delhi Capitals had earlier announced the signing of Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, there was some confusion regarding his availability since he is part of the Bangladesh squad that is set to take on UAE for two T20Is, and also the tour to Pakistan beginning on May 25. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had also said that it did not know of any such deal with DC.
However, now the ESPN Cricinfo report states that Mustafizur Rahman has been cleared to play for Delhi Capitals, but only for the three league stage games. He will not be available for the playoffs, should the franchise make it to that stage. He will be a perfect replacement to Mitchell Starc, who opted out of the IPL 2025 as he is part of the Australia squad for the WTC 2025 final.
