Operation Sindoor May Redraw IPL 2025 Map

In response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor' during the wee hours of Wednesday, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). As security tensions rise following Operation Sindoor, the BCCI may be forced to rethink IPL 2025 venues located near India’s northern and western borders. With the stadium in Dharamshala under the scanner due to proximity to Pakistan, a new shortlist of faraway, safer venues isn't out of contention.
Sources close to the development in BCCI have already confirmed to Times Now regarding rescheduling or cancelling the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), supposed to take place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala, on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The distance between the stadium in Dharamshala and the Attari, Wagah Border is close to 240 kilometres. However, soon after, the BCCI got the clearance from the government to host the PBKS vs DC match as per schedule, since it would have been a logistical nightmare to make last-minute changes, given both teams are already in Dharamshala.
Although the match between PBKS and DC will go ahead as scheduled, Times Now has also exclusively learnt that the Mumbai Indians-PBKS fixture has been moved out of Dharamshala and shifted to Mumbai. The match was scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Dharamshala. The BCCI is likely to provide an official update on the changes soon.
"The use of floodlights in the stadium could help Pakistan. Hence, the match (PBKS vs DC) is likely to be cancelled or rescheduled," a BCCI source told Times Now. It is also learnt that BCCI is not willing to give Pakistan an easy target with 25,000 people in the stadium in Dharamshala (with floodlights on). The BCCI approach is simple - better safe than sorry.
Given the circumstances, BCCI may look at venues that are strategically located far from international borders, making them suitable choices for hosting the rest of the IPL 2025 matches. With the focus purely on geographical distance from the nearest international boundary, prioritising maximum inland safety, here's a list of five IPL venues farthest from any international border shared with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
IPL Venues - Ranked by Distance from Borders

Note: The distances are approximate and based on the shortest straight-line measurements from each stadium to the nearest international border.
The Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is the farthest (2800 km) from any international border, but it is yet to host any IPL match.
Why consider these venues?
The M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, home to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is a coastal city located deep in South India and considered to be furthest from any land border.
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, home to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is located deep in southern India, with robust infrastructure.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, home to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is centrally located in southern India, known to be far from eastern and western borders.
The Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, home to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), even though is closer than southern venues, but it’s still well inland and not immediately near any international border.
