Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar cheekily hinted at the viral 'Stupid, stupid, stupid' moment on live television during Rishabh Pant's innings in the India vs England first Test at Headingley in Leeds, on June 20 (Friday). The commentary box was discussing how Rishabh Pant was batting a little slow, which is not exactly his style. The legendary batter passed a remark on this and said 'Maybe he is waiting for me to finish my commentary stint'. This sparked a huge laugh in the commentary box.
What Is The 'Stupid, Stupid, Stupid' Moment?
Pant was caught at third man after making a mistake with a shot during the Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year. "Stupid, stupid, stupid!" was Gavaskar's exact response in the commentary box, and he was furious.
Pant later recreated the moment with Sunil Gavaskar himself when both of them appeared in a brand advertisement.
Indian batters dominate English bowlers
England won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the decision backfired as Indian batters dominated Day 1. First, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul joined a 91-run opening partnership. Later, both Jaiswal and Shubman Gill completed their Test centuries. Gill marked his Test captaincy debut with a spectacular knock. Rishabh Pant smashed an astonishing half-century and completed 3000 Test runs as well. At the time of writing, India is 338/3 in 81 overs.
