Mahendra Singh Dhoni is expected to play, what many consider his last IPL game, at the Eden Gardens, when KKR takes on CSK on Wednesday. However, a day before the game, Dhoni skipped practice for the second consecutive day, leaving fans in disappointed again.
However, Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simons pacified concerns after confirming the 43-year-old's participation in Wednesday's Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Stating that Dhoni was "fine" and "will play" the game, Simmons said, "Yes, he's expected to play tomorrow."
"With regards to MS, he knows his situation very well. He knows where he is. In terms of his preparations, he always works very hard at the beginning of a tournament and then allows himself to taper off because he gets himself in a space where he's ready.
"So no issues, he just knows when he is prepared and when he's not."
Simons also acknowledged the manner in which Dhoni handled the change in leadership.
"From selection conversations to tactics on the field to taking over from someone like him, what made it easier is the way that MS handles those moments.
"He's a remarkable man from that perspective, and it's been pretty smooth for him to step into the role again. Rutu is still around, still part of the conversations," Simons said.
Meanwhile, the frenzy surrounding Dhoni possibly playing his last game at Eden Gardens is expected to overshadow KKR's crucial IPL contest against Chennai Super Kings, but head coach Chandrakant Pandit said the players know how to "ignore the noise" and stay focussed on the game.
According to Pandit, players are capable of shutting out outside noises.
"It was the same case with me when people used to tell me so much noise around and how you can focus. But sometimes we just ignore that noise automatically. So, obviously when you are focused on the game, it does not matter so much if you ask me," he said.
