- The top five-scorers are separated by 10 runs in the 2025 IPL
Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler continued their golden run of form in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) during their rain-hit clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (May 6).
Chasing a total of 155, Sai Sudarshan was dismissed for a single-digit score for just the third time in his IPL career and the second time this season, as he suffered a rare failure after a dream campaign after being dismissed for a knock of five by Trent Boult in the second over of the match.
In tough conditions with rain around, Gill and Buttler put up a gritty partnership of 72 runs, which played a key role in the Titans ultimately winning a last-ball thriller by three wickets after rain drama in Mumbai.
Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Sai Sudharsan Create History
Gill's knock of 43 in 46 balls and Buttler's 27-ball 30 helped both players cross the 500-run mark in the 2025 IPL. This now means that three Titans players have scored 500 runs this season after Sudarshan crossed the mark in their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The remarkable achievement of the Titans' trio marks the first instance in IPL history of three players from the same team making more than 500 runs in an IPL season. There were 14 occasions of two players from a team crossing the elusive mark in the season before this.

So far in the 2025 IPL, Sudharsan has made 509 runs, Gill has 508 runs, and Buttler has 500 runs. All three players have batted 11 times this season. The trio are involved in a tense race for the orange cap with five players within 10 runs of each other as Suryakumar Yadav has 510 runs while Virat Kohli has made 505.
With three league stage matches left and the playoffs, it is likely the Titans trio could cross the 600-run
mark.
