MS Dhoni is still playing the IPL for Chennai Super Kings at the age of 43. This has been five years since he last played an international match for India as well. The IPL introduced a new rule this season, wherein any player who last played an international match more than 4 years ago can be classified as an uncapped player, and could be retained by a franchise for Rs 4 crore ahead of the auction. Sunil Gavaskar has slammed this new uncapped rule claiming it damages Indian cricket.
In his column for Sportstar, Sunil Gavaskar said that young players get too much money and as a result their hunger fades away, and hence they are lost soon. The loss of yoiung players means that Indian cricket is dealt a big blow. He also added that the limit to retain uncapped players was raised to Rs 4 crore to accomodate MS Dhoni.
"A whole lot of the players bought for huge amounts simply fade away as their hunger and drive are satiated. To the franchises, it perhaps doesn’t matter as they may feel it’s good riddance, but Indian cricket takes a bit of a beating at the loss of any player whether he has been successful or not. To accommodate Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who became an uncapped player before the auction last year, the limit was raised to ₹4 crore," the legendary India batter wrote.

'Guys Become Overwhelmed When They Become Crorepatis'

Sunil Gavaskar further wrote that afte becoming crorepatis and rubbing shoulders with some of their idols in the IPL dessing room, the young players get overwhelmed. After that they are not even part of the top 30 players in their state squad.
"Most of the guys who suddenly become crorepatis are overwhelmed, firstly by their sudden good fortune and then by the nervousness of getting to rub shoulders with those they have admired and perhaps never even dreamt of meeting. They are often not even part of their State's squad of top 30 players," Gavaskar added.
