India spinner Varun Chakravarthy on Tuesday broke Kuldeep Yadav's record to continue his brilliant comeback to international cricket, after being out of reckoning for the longest time due to inconsistent performances in domestic cricket. Against England in Rajkot on Tuesday, he bagged 5/24 to go past Kuldeep's Indian record of most wickets in a 10-T20I stretch in men's cricket.
Selected for the Indian T20I team four years back, Chakravarthy was left out in the cold after six matches, three of which came in that year’s T20 World Cup. While his career record stood at two wickets at 66 apiece, he had gone for 5.86 an over.
Since making a comeback in October, his 10 T20Is have fetched him 27 wickets at 10.96, all the while maintaining an economy of 7.4. He boasts of impressive career numbers after 16 matches, with 29 wickets at an average of 14.75 and an average of 6.84.
In the last three months, Chakravarthy has picked two five-fors, with just Kuldeep and Bhuvneshwar Kumar having the same number of five-wicket hauls in T20Is. His 27 wickets in 10 matches is now an Indian record, after Kuldeep's 25 and the third-highest in the world, behind Rashid Khan's 30 and Syzarul Idrus' 28.

On Tuesday, England lost their way after a whirlwind half-century from Ben Duckett (51 off 28) as the in-form Chakravarthy ran through the opposition batting on a flat pitch.
From 83/1, England slipped to 127/8 before Liam Livingstone (43 off 24) went on a six-hitting spree to end the innings on a high.
Chakravarthy completed his second five-wicket haul in T20s when he bowled Jofra Archer with a googly.
