Jannik Sinner clinched his fourth Grand Slam and first grass court title at Wimbledon on Sunday as he beat his fiercest foe, Carlos Alcaraz, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday. The final saw Sinner make amends for his loss in the French Open final to the Spaniard a little over a month ago. Several international athletes graced the Wimbledon Royal Box. One of the prominent names to attend the oldest Grand Slam event was Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic gold and silver medallist and the reigning world champion. Neeraj was in London after winning the inaugural NC Classic in Bengaluru on July 5.
While Sinner - the winner of two Wimbledon titles and a US Open title - finally ended Alcaraz's five-match winning streak against him, Neeraj was asked about his experience of witnessing tennis at the hallowed Centre Court.
“It feels fantastic to be here. This is my first tennis tournament, and that too, Wimbledon. The passion everyone here has for tennis is great to see,” Neeraj said, speaking to Star Sports.
Neeraj also opened up about his favourite player. The 27-year-old named now-retired legendary Roger Federer, the winner of 8 Wimbledon titles and 20 Grand Slams, as his favourite.
“Roger Federer has been a very tough competitor during his days. The way he has carried Switzerland’s flag in the field of tennis, especially at Wimbledon—I have met him, and the way he has maintained himself, his brand value, and his family, it speaks a lot about that person,” Neeraj added, highlighting his admiration for the most successful grass court player.
