The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh. The series will take place later this month at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. The three matches are scheduled to be played on July 20, 22, and 24. The PCB did not consider senior cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and pacer Shaheen Afridi for this series. Babar and Rizwan last played a T20I for Pakistan in December 2024, while Shaheen's last match in the shortest format came in March 2025.
Meanwhile, Haris Rauf has not been included in the squad as he is currently nursing a hamstring injury picked up during the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA. Likewise, there are several other injury concerns. Shadab Khan is currently recovering from shoulder surgery and is out for the next three months. Fast bowlers Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim Jr. are still recovering from their respective injuries.
However, to the respite of the selectors, Mohammad Nawaz has returned to the squad after being out since January 2024. Left-arm spinner Muqeem, who has impressed in domestic competitions, has been recalled.
Meanwhile, young fast bowler Salman Mirza has received his maiden call-up. Mohammad Abbas Afridi, who was previously sidelined due to injury, has also been recalled. Mohammad Haris, who played a match-winning knock against Bangladesh in their last T20I series, retains his place and is expected to bat at number three once again.
Pakistan will be led by Salman Ali Agha, though the PCB has refrained from naming his deputy. It is worth noting that Pakistan recently defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in a T20I series held in Pakistan.
Bangladesh is currently on a tour of Sri Lanka, playing a three-match ODI series, which will be followed by a T20I series before they return home to take on Pakistan.
