legendary Indian cricketer Virat Kohli finally revealed the reason behind his decision to bid goodbye to Test cricket. Around two months back, the Indian batting maestro announced that he will hanging his boots in the longest and purest format of the game. The cricket elite, including the current Indian team, gathered at a fund-raising event in London hosted by former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh. By making reference to the color of his beard, Kohli implied that it was time he parts ways with the red-ball format of the game.
"I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it's time when you are colouring your beard every four days," said Kohli.
In a long Instagram message published on May 12, Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket, a format he supported throughout his career. "As I step away from this format, it's not easy - but it feels right. I've given it everything I had, and it's given me back so much more than I could've hoped for. I'm walking away with a heart full of gratitude -- for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way. I'll always look back at my Test career with a smile."
After playing in 123 Test matches and amassing 9,230 runs from 210 innings at a remarkable average of 46.85 and strike rate of 55.58, Virat Kohli announced his retirement. With a top score of 254, he has amassed 30 hundreds, 31 half-centuries, and seven double hundreds. He has the most double hundreds of any Indian. In Test cricket, Kohli has also hit 30 sixes and 1,027 fours. Kohli was the first Indian skipper to win a Test series in Australia (2018–19) and played a key role in India's international triumphs.
Only five days after captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from red-ball cricket, Kohli announced his own. Kohli has refrained from commenting on cricket-related matters ever since. He congratulated Shubman Gill, the new India Test captain, on his historic 269-run knock against England in the second Test to conclude the break.
Calling Gill a "star boy," Kohli sent his best wishes for the future of the Indian skipper. Additionally, he conveyed his happiness following India's 336-run victory over England to tie the five-match series. Additionally, Kohli and his spouse, Anushka Sharma, were seen at a Wimbledon round of 16 men's singles match between Alex de Minaur and Novak Djokovic.
