Shubman Gill was unstoppable at Edgbaston, Birmingham, and scored 430 runs across two innings to lead India to a thumping 336-run win. Gill scored 269 in the first innings and backed it up with 161 in the second innings, shattering numerous records. He broke Virat Kohli's (449) record of most runs by a captain in a debut series. The 269 in the first innings was the highest score by an Indian outside Asia, bettering Sachin Tendulkar's 241 in Sydney.
This was also the third-highest score by an Indian in away Tests, behind Virender Sehwag's 309 in Multan, and Rahul Dravid's 270 in Rawalpindi. Gill also became the third Indian after Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid to score a double hundred in England.
There were doubts whether Gill would handle the captaincy well, but he has come out with flying colours. For the unversed, he also scored a brilliant 147 in the first Test. Gill has got a great start to the series, and if he can continue the momentum, he will surely break many more records.

Shubman Gill Nearing Huge Don Bradman Feat

Shubman Gill has already scored 585 runs in the series and is nearing a massive Don Bradman record. If Gill can score 225 more runs, he will top the charts for most runs by a captain in a Test series. The record is currently held by Don Bradman, who scored 810 runs against England in 1930.
Gill can also become the player with the most centuries in a Test series. Clyde Walcott scored five hundreds against Australia in 1955, and Gill needs two more centuries to match the feat, and three to leapfrog him. The record for most hundreds as captain in a series is held by Don Bradman, who scored four hundreds against India in 1947. For India, Sunil Gavaskar holds the record for the most hundreds as a player as well as captain. He scored four centuries each against the West Indies in 1971 and 1978-79, respectively.
Gill can also become the fastest to 1000 runs as captain. Bradman reached the milestone in 11 innings, and Gill needs 415 runs in six innings to match Bradman's feat.
