'Out Ho Gye To Bahar': Shubman Gill's Old Video Goes Viral After Record Breaking 269 At Edgbaston ( Photo: AP )
Shubman Gill has been magnificent for India in the first two Tests against England. He played a brilliant innings of 147 in the first Test and backed it up with another brilliant knock of 269 - his highest score in Test cricket. Gill wasn't in great form in Test cricket, and there were doubts whether the added responsibilities of leading the side would take a toll on him; however, he came out with flying colours.
Soon after Gill played the record-breaking 269 run inning, an old video of a young Shubman Gill talking about Test cricket went viral.
'We have to keep in mind that this is Test cricket, and if you get out early, you will have to sit out. The more you are at the crease, the more runs you will score. You can't score runs sitting out. So, I have to take care not to play shots in the air. I try to play grounded shots more unless I get a loose ball. My ultimate aim is to play for India,” Shubman Gill said in the clip shared by the Punjab Cricket Association.
The 269-run knock by Gill was the highest score by an Indian outside Asia. Gill broke Sachin Tendulkar's record, who scored 241 in Sydney in 2004. This was also the third highest score by an Indian away from home after Virender Sehwag's 309 in Multan and Rahul Dravid's 270 in Rawalpindi. Gill also became the third Indian after Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid to score a double hundred in England.
Meanwhile, Gill's century clubbed with Ravindra Jadeja's 89 and Yashasvi Jaiswal's 87 helped India post 587 in the first innings. The Indian bowlers were also on song and reduced England to 77-3 at stumps on Day 2, with Akash Deep picking up two wickets and Mohammed Siraj accounting for the third wicket.
