After finishing at the last spot in the IPL 2024 points table, Mumbai Indians (MI) bounced back strongly and made it to the second round of IPL 2025. The Hardik Pandya-led side won 8 out of their 14 matches to finish in the fourth position. The five-time IPL Champions defeated Gujarat Titans in the eliminator to make it to the qualifier. They lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the must-win game. PBKS fell short against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 final.
The fans are now eagerly waiting for IPL 2026. MI, like other teams, will make some additions and releases before the next season. Here, we have a look at 3 players MI could release before IPL 2026 -
Arjun Tendulkar
Arjun Tendulkar could be one of the players Mumbai Indians might release before the IPL 2026 mini-auction. The left-arm pacer stayed on the bench in IPL 2025 and wasn't even named in the list of Impact Players.
Arjun, who joined MI in the IPL 2021 mini-auction, played 4 matches in 2023 and one game in 2024. He has only played 5 IPL matches so far. He doesn't seem to be in MI's plans and they could release him. MI re-signed him for Rs 30 lakh.
Reece Topley
Reece Topley stayed on the bench for almost the entire IPL 2025. He only played one game for MI - against Punjab Kings on June 1 in Ahmedabad. MI were forced to play him in the qualifier.
Reece struggled in the all-important game and leaked 40 runs in his three overs. He looks all but set to go back into the mini-auction. Reece going unsold, if he gets released, won't be a big surprise.
Charith Asalanka
Charith Asalanka didn't get to play even one game in IPL 2025 and remained on the bench. The franchise doesn't seemingly have any plays for him and the Sri Lanka player could be part of the next mini-auction.
