Max Verstappen brushed off speculation about his Formula One future during Thursday’s press conference ahead of the British Grand Prix, choosing instead to reaffirm his commitment to Red Bull.
Amid reports from Sky Sport Italia claiming he had agreed to join Mercedes next season, Verstappen remained noncommittal. “I am happy where I am,” he told reporters. “There are always rumours, but only one who decides — that’s me and the team. I’m in control of my own destiny.”
The report suggested Verstappen could replace George Russell, though the British driver recently said he was confident of securing a contract extension and expected to finalize it within weeks.
Verstappen reiterated he had nothing new to add, following similar queries last week: “Other people write stuff and that’s great, but it’s not me,” he said. “You can always think the grass is greener. But I know what I have — and what we can do.”
Asked whether he had ever been tempted by faster cars or rival offers, the four-time world champion said he had never seriously considered leaving Red Bull. “It would be ideal to finish my career with one team. That would be something amazing,” he said. “We’re still fighting for podiums and that’s not too bad.”
The 27-year-old also declined to confirm speculation about exit clauses in his Red Bull contract that could be triggered if he falls outside the championship’s top three by the end of July. “To be honest, I am not speaking about my contract. It’s easier like that,” he said.
Verstappen’s comments reflected a focus on stability amid growing speculation and a challenging season for Red Bull.
