The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has reportedly sought an official response from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their stance over Asia Cup participation. According to a report in Pakistan Observer, the ACC, headed by Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chief of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Thursday formally wrote to the BCCI to provide a formal confirmation on participation in the Asia Cup.
India's participation in the tournament was in doubt after India-Pakistan ties hit a new low after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. There were reports that India could boycott playing Pakistan in all global events, and may even pull out of the Asia Cup.
Media reports on Wednesday speculated India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup on September 7; however, no official confirmation was made by the BCCI or the ACC. The BCCI will likely seek approval from the Indian government before giving any response for the Asia Cup.
India are the official host of the tournament, however, if the tournament sees daylight, it is highly likely that it will be moved out of India to a neutral venue, most likely in the UAE. The ACC is likely to make further decisions on the Asia Cup after getting a formal reply from the Indian government.
Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Siaka had also refuted the claims that India may pull out of the Asia Cup.
"Since this morning, it has come to our notice about some news items about BCCI's decision not to participate in the Asia Cup and Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC events. Such news is devoid of any truth as till now, the BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding the ensuing ACC events, leave alone writing anything to the ACC," he had said.
