India are taking on England in the first Test of the five-match series at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. India had a decent first innings as they scored 471 riding on centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. The Indian bowlers, barring Jasprit Bumrah, have struggled to take wickets. But there is still a chance that the Indian side can enforce a follow-on on the home team. For that they have to bowl quite well.
India have scored 471 in the first innings. Shubman Gill's men need to get England all-out for 271 or under, which is 200 runs less than what they have scored. Only then can they enforce a follow-on on England.
If England are made to follow-on, then they would have to come out to bat again in the third innings, and aim to score the runs that they will fall short by. The more lead England can take in that instance, the more the target for India will be in the fourth innings to win the match.

England Tick Along After India Smash 471
England won the toss and elected to bowl first. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who opened the batting, had a brilliant stand of 91 runs. Rahul was the first wicket to fall after scoring 42 runs by Brydon Carse. Just a few balls later, Sai Sudharsan, the new batter at no.3 was dismissed for a duck, as he had a debut to forget.
After lunch, Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill continued India's onslaught. The duo went on to slam a century partnership. Jaiswal went on to score a century in his first innings on English soil. He was dismissed for 101. After that Rishabh Pant and Gill continued to score the runs with a double century stand, with Gill going on to be dismissed after hitting 147. Pant too slammed a century, as he scored 130.
After that, the Indian batters fell like a pack of cards, as they were all for 471.
Despite Jasprit Bumrah getting an early breakthrough, England fought back excellently as Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope put on a century partnership for the second wicket, with both scoring half-centuries. Bumrah then broke the stand with the scalp of Duckett.
