India's vice-captain Rishabh Pant made history by recording the most hundreds of any Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket. On the second day of the first Test match against England at Headingley, Leeds, Pant reached the milestone. After starting his innings with a score of 65 overnight, the southpaw hit a boundary down fine leg against Brydon Carse to score his first runs of the day.
He surpassed MS Dhoni in the record for the most hundreds scored by an Indian wicketkeeper batter. In his 90-match career, the former captain of India hit six Test hundreds, and in 44 games, Pant achieved his seventh Test ton. Additionally, he moved up to the fourth position on the list of international cricketers with the most Test hundreds, joining BJ Watling, Matt Prior, AB de Villiers, and Kumar Sangakkara.
Pant Surpasses Dhoni In Another Elite List
After breaking Dhoni's century record. He also surpassed him in the list of batter with most sixes in Test cricket. Prior to this match, MS Dhoni who has 78 Test sixes to his name was above Pant in the list who only had 73. At the time of writing, Pant has already smashed 6 sixes in the 1st Test against England. This took him past Dhoni in the list with 79 sixes. He will soon become the third Indian batter after Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma to hit 80 or more sixes in Test cricket.
