A moment of chaos prevailed during the Eliminator in Maharashtra’s premier T20 league as fielding madness stole the spotlight.
Vicky Ostwal capitalised on a comical Kolhapur Tuskers mess-up to turn the tide in Raigad Royals’ favour at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Chasing a target of 160, Ostwal found himself involved in the middle of a bizarre incident.
After punching a back-foot shot off Atman Pore through the covers, Ostwal and his partner tried to complete a couple. It was then that disaster struck mid-pitch, with both batters colliding and falling flat on the ground - handing Kolhapur a chance to effect a simple run-out.
But what followed next left everyone stunned. The fielder threw the ball in from deep straight to the wicketkeeper, who did not take the bails off and astonishingly sent the ball back to the bowler rather than effect the run-out himself, despite Ostwal being nowhere near the crease.
Pore, caught by surprise, fumbled the return. Sensing a second chance, a Kolhapur fielder scooped up the ball and sprinted toward the striker’s end. Realising the danger, Ostwal sprinted back in a last-ditch attempt to save his wicket. Pore’s throw missed the stumps, and with no one backing up, Ostwal reached home safely.
The Royals’ players and staff burst into laughter and relief, while Kolhapur Tuskers stared in disbelief.
The farcical miss would prove incredibly costly. Riding his luck, Ostwal went on to anchor the chase with a superb 74 off 54 balls, driving Raigad Royals to a dramatic victory in this knockout clash.
With this win, the Royals advanced to Qualifier 2, where they will face Puneri Bappa for a spot in the grand final.
