India are all set to begin their campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, when they take on England in a five-match series, with the first match beginning from June 20 (Friday) in Leeds. India will be without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, since both these stalwarts have retired from the longest format of the game. While the whole world is talking about how India would perform without these two players, Sachin Tendulkar has named another player who will be missing too.
Ravichandran Ashwin also retired quite recently, during the third Test between India and Australia in Melbourne in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December 2024. During an interview with Sky Sports, Sachin Tendulkar said that people are only talking about Rohit and Virat, but R Ashwin too had a major role in inspiring a lot of youngsters.
Sachin also talked about how it would be a difficult task for the Indian team wthout Virat, Rohit and Ashwin in England. However, they will not shy away from this challenge, and a success in this series will definitely motivate the next generation.
"This is a transitional period for Indian cricket where youngsters have come in and they'll be taking a fresh guard and moving forward. I'm sure these guys have huge following back home. You need heroes who inspire you this is their best chance to do that you know it's it's not going to be easy without Rohit, without Virat and Ashwin. You know people have been talking about just Rohit and Virat but I think Ashwin also played a major role in inspiring a lot of youngsters. I feel without them it's going to be challenging and this is one challenge which I very much know that the team will not shy away from. They'll be up for it and they'll motivate the next generation
