Jasprit Bumrah, who is expected to play 3 Tests in the series, is likely to be part of the final XI at the start of the series. The right-arm pacer hasn't played international cricket since January 2025. He made his return for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj are likely to be the other two pacers in the final XI.
Star England batter Jos Buttler, believes that Jasprit Bumrah biggest superstar in Indian cricket. In an interview with Stuart Broad, Buttler claimed that Bumrah was respected and posed the greatest threat to the opposition wherever he went. In a five-match Test series away from home between June and August, India takes on England. Under Shubman Gill's leadership, Bumrah, who is making his red-ball comeback after a back injury, is anticipated to be this youthful Indian team's greatest asset.
Buttler expressed his appreciation for the Indian fast bowler in an interview with Stuart Broad for the For the Love of Cricket podcast.
“I don’t think there’s a bigger star in that touring squad than Jasprit Bumrah. But facing him, he creates awkward angles, the run-up is unique, the action is unique. I think I have seen the side-ons (bowlers), but he delivers the ball from about a foot or even a bit more closer to the batsman than the average bowler, so the ball feels quicker even than the pace he is actually bowling at,” Jos Buttler said
Buttler stated that Bumrah's action could make one feel like a sitting target.
“For me as a right-hander, it always felt like it was coming in, but he could beat me on the outside, and you sort of find yourself in a horrible position, squared up and a bit of a sitting target,” said the former England white-ball captain.
“He is a superstar bowler, and that’s what you expect in international cricket. You are going to come up against great players and certainly someone England will need to play well to have good success,” he said.
It is not anticipated that Jasprit Bumrah will participate in all five Test matches in the series. Before India left for England, Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar reaffirmed this, saying that India would control the pacers' workload to prevent injuries from continuing to ruin his career. Stuart Broad, who retired in 2023 after taking 604 wickets from 167 Test matches, predicted that if Bumrah plays in all five of the series' games, the Indian pacer will take a 'shedload of wickets'.
“He is going to be certainly one to watch and certainly someone that England won’t want to play five Tests, because if he does, he’s going to pick up a shedload of wickets, isn’t he?" Broad concluded.
The first India vs England Test match will be played in Leeds, on June 20.
