Less than 72 hours after the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) came to an end with South Africa creating history and defeating Australia in the final at the iconic Lord's Ground, the race to reach the 2027 final began on Tuesday (June 17) as the 2025-27 cycle started with Sri Lanka's clash against Bangladesh in Galle.

While the venue for the summit clash, which will be held in June 2027, is yet to be confirmed, reports have indicated that it will again take place in India despite interest from India to host it. The fourth edition of the tournament gives the likes of South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand a chance to be crowned two-time champions and become the first team with multiple titles, while India, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, and Pakistan will aim to lift the trophy for the first time.

Like previous editions, the number of matches played will include the likes of India, Australia, and England will play each other in a five-match series, while the others are mostly playing two-match series or at maximum three.
