- Colombo will host the India-Pakistan clash
- The final will held either in Bengaluru or Colombo
While India is the sole host of the Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, set to be played from September 30 to November 2, Sri Lanka's iconic R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is one of the five venues that will host matches. The venue will host a minimum of 11 matches and a maximum of 13 games in the tournament. The other matches will take place in Guwahati, Indore, and Visakhapatnam, while Bengaluru will host both the opening game as well as the final, potentially.
Seven games in the league stage will take place in Sri Lanka, while the venue could host the first semi-final as well as the summit clash. While the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati and Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium have been awarded these games, they could be shifted to Colombo.
Why Colombo Is Hosting Matches In The ICC Women's World Cup 2025?
Ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy, the International Cricket Council (ICC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came to an understanding which meant that both India and Pakistan will not travel to each other's shores to play a global event with a hybrid model to be put in place in global events hosted by both nations till 2027.
In the 2025 Men's Champions Trophy, which was the first ICC event hosted by Pakistan in 29 years, India played all their matches in Dubai, including the semi-final and final. Similarly, Pakistan will play all their matches in the Women's World Cup 2025 in Colombo. The India-Pakistan clash on October 5 will also take place in Sri Lanka. If they qualify, the semi-final and final will also be held at the Premadasa Stadium.
The model will also be applicable in the Men's T20 World Cup in 2026, but India and Sri Lanka are co-hosts, which will make the scheduling easier. However, details of Pakistan's matches and a potential India-Pakistan clash are yet to be revealed.
