The World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final is headed for a thrilling finish after South Africa reduced Australia to 144-8 in the second innings. The WTC final at Lord's has been a low-scoring affair, with South Africa bowling out Australia for 212 in the first innings before Australia struck back and knocked out the Proteas for 138. As things stand, Australia lead by 218 runs and have their noses slightly ahead given the conditions.
For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada has been magnificent, accounting for eight wickets so far, while Australia's charge was led by the pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins. The Australian captain, especially, was on fire in the first innings and picked six wickets. The six-wicket haul helped Pat Cummins join the elite 300-wicket club in Test cricket.
Australia Create Epic Record
With Cummins joining the club, Australia created history during the WTC final. The defending champions became the first team in the world to feature three bowlers with 300 or more Test wickets in the same team. Along with Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon also have 300+ wickets in Test cricket. Starc has 384 wickets to his name, while Lyon has 553 wickets to his tally.
Australia Eye History
Meanwhile, the lead is already healthy for Australia, and they'll be hoping to stretch to beyond the 250 run mark on Day 3. The odds are against South Africa as only once a 200+ score has been chased at Lord's since 2005, but records are meant to be broken and the Proteas will be optimistic. But the Australian bowling attack will come hard and make them work for every run. If Australia win the WTC final, they will become the first team in the world to win the WTC twice.
