Australia are currently taking on South Africa in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 at he iconic Lord's Cricket ground in London. With Australia chasing a world record 2nd WTC title, a lot of their hopes would have rested on their star batter Steve Smith. He had a great outing in the first innings, but could not score well in the second innings for Australia. He has now ended the WTC 2023-25 cycle with a massive record, that no other batter has ever achieved.
Steve Smith smashed 66 in the first innings. He could only manage 13 in the second innings. Smith has ended his WTC 2023-25 cycle with 1403 runs. In the WTC 2019-21 cycle, Smith slammed 1343 runs, followed by 1407 runs in 2021-23 cycle. He becomes the first batter in history to slam more than 1300+ runs in all three WTC cycles.
Steve Smith now has 604 runs in Lord's. He now becomes the first overseas player to breach the 600-run landmark in the history of the game. He had already crossed Warren Bardsley as the non-English batter with the most runs at Lord's with his half-century in the first innings.
Smith also crossed Viv Richards to become the overseas batter with the most 50+ scores in England, by scoring his 18th 50+ score in the first innings.

Australia On Top After First Two Innings

South Africa won the toss in the WTC 2025 final. The Proteas bowlers made life difficult for the Aussie batters in the first innings. They were all out for 212. Beau Webster was the top scorer with 72 runs, with Steve Smith also scoring 66. Kagiso Rabada stole the show with a five-wicket haul.
Pat Cummins stole the show with a six-wicket haul in the second innings as South Africa were bundled out for 138, thus helping Australia take a lead by 74 runs.
Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi then took 3 wickets each, but Alex Carey stepped up with a valiant 43-run knock, as AUS ended Day 2 with a score of 144/8. They have taken a lead of 218 runs.
