India coach Gautam Gambhir made an emergency return to India from the England tour. According to a report in RevSportz, Gambhir's mother suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the ICU, forcing Gambhir to rush back home.
Gambhir was set to oversee India's final preparations for the England Test series during the practice game against India A from June 13; however, the team will now have to do without the head coach. India, though, will have the services of assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel. While Gambhir's return date is not revealed, it is speculated that he will join the team before the first Test at Leeds from June 20.

Meanwhile, the India vs India A intra-squad game will be played behind closed doors. The BCCI officially did not reveal the reason for their decision, but it is speculated that since the match does not hold first-class status, they decided to keep the media at bay.
"June13-16: Closed Intra squad game. No vision access to Media/Broadcast. On the final day of the squad game, a player/member of support staff will be made available to the media," BCCI said in a statement.
Also, it is not clear what rules will be followed during the practice game, and which players will play for India or India A. Many players in the India A squad, including KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Reddy, Dhruv Jurel, Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, and Abhimanyu Easwaran, are also part of the India squad for the Test series.
