India are all set to take on England in a five-match Test Series to begin their campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. The team will field a new-look team because of the two massive retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain and is rumoured to bat at no.4 in place of Virat Kohli. This means India would need someone to bat at no.3, and Karun Nair has been touted to be that player, especially with his great run in the preparatory games vs England Lions. However, Harbhajan Singh wants someone else in that position.
In an interaction with IANS, Harbhajan Singh has said that Sai Sudharsan to come in to bat at no.3. This is because of the fact that he is a left-hander and he is in tremendous form, having come off a brilliant IPL 2025 where he won the Orange Cap.
"In my opinion, Sai Sudharsan should play at No.3. He’s a left-hander, in top form, and just came off a very impressive IPL. His technique is sound, and I believe he could be the solution at that position," Harbhajan said.
Harbhajan also said that the England tour is going to be a big challenge for the new captain, Shubman Gill, especially in the absence of senior players.
“Gill is a new captain, and the team is quite young — there’s no Rohit, Virat, Pujara, or even Ajinkya Rahane. It’s going to be challenging, but I expect our youngsters to rise to the occasion and perform well,” the former India spinner added.
