India are all set to begin their campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 when they take on England in a crucial five-match Test series beginning from June 20. This will be a crucial series for India as they will step into the field for the first time since the Test retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In their absence, Jasprit Bumrah will be one of the senior players, and perhaps the most crucial weapon in the armoury of new captain Shubman Gill. The ace fast bowler now has the chance to create history with a massive record in the first Test itself.
Jasprit Bumrah has 145 Test wickets in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia (SENA countries). If he takes five wickets in the series against England, then he will become the first Asian bowler to take 150 Test wickets in SENA countries. If he takes two more wickets, then he will overtake the legendary Wasim Akram to become the Asian with the most number of Test wickets in SENA nations.
Here are the Asian bowlers with the most Test wickets in SENA countries:
146 - Wasim Akram
145 - Jasprit Bumrah
141 - Anil Kumble
130 - Ishant Sharma
125 - Muttiah Muralitharan
Jasprit Bumrah Will Not Play Whole Series
Jasprit Bumrah will be playing for India for the first time since being sidelined due to a back injury after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. However, it has been confirmed that he will not play the whole series, but only three matches. However, head coach Gautam Gambhir has not specified which three games the star fast bowler would play.
"We have not taken that call that which three games we want (him) to play. Look it's always difficult to replace someone like Jasprit Bumrah but we have got enough quality," Gambhir said in the press conference before India departed for England.
