Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined for showing dissent at umpire's decision during a TNPL match.
Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for showing tantrums during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match against Tiruppur Tamizhans on Sunday in Coimbatore.
Ashwin, who was adjudged LBW by on-field umpire Kritika while trying to play a sweep off R Sai Kishore, showed dissent. The ball appeared to pitch outside the leg stump. With no review available - both had already been used for wide-ball calls - Ashwin was visibly upset with the umpire's decision. He confronted the umpire and pointed towards the pitch, arguing his case before walking off.
Ashwin was so frustrated with the dismissal that he hit his bat on the right pad and later threw his gloves in the dugout, behaviour that led to a disciplinary hearing post-match.
"Ashwin was fined 10 percent for showing dissent towards the umpires and 20 percent for misuse of equipment. He accepted the sanctions," a TNPL official told Cricbuzz.
Ashwin showing tantrums went viral, with many fans sympathising with him after replays suggested the delivery had indeed pitched outside leg stump. Ashwin's dismissal at 39 for 1 triggered a collapse. The Dindigul Dragons were bowled out for just 93 in 16.2 overs.
Tiruppur Tamizhans won the match by 9 wickets with 49 balls remaining, thanks to a dominant unbeaten 65 off 39 balls from Tushar Raheja. Esakkimuthu starred with the ball, picking up 4 for 26.
