The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has brought a plethora of youngsters into the spotlight. In a highly competitive league where youngsters rub shoulders with the best in the world, their confidence levels have soared, making them believe in their strengths. Indian youngsters have made a tremendous impact, propelling themselves to overnight stardom.
With the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka, preparations are already underway. Youngsters who have performed exceptionally well in IPL 2025 are likely to be included in the Indian squad, given their ability to absorb pressure and familiarity with Indian conditions.
Rohit Uthappa, India’s 2007 World T20-winning batter, named three uncapped youngsters who could provide impetus to India’s batting strength, raising the chances of the team defending the title.
Punjab Kings’ 24-year-old opening duo Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, and Rajasthan Royals’ 14-year-old pocket dynamo Vaibhav Suryavanshi were the standout performers this season. They rose to fame with their sheer stroke-making abilities. Despite playing on the big stage before packed houses filled with music blaring and stares of scrutiny, they dazzled with their willows.
With their emergence, the Indian selectors are set to face a sweet challenge in picking the best players for the build-up to the T20 World Cup. India already boasts consistent players like Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who are now top-order mainstays for India.
Uthappa said India should focus on finding the best possible squad in the upcoming T20I series in their quest to defend the trophy. “Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, all of them will definitely be in contention for a World Cup spot. It’s about using the remaining T20s before the tournament to figure out the best 15-man squad. You already have Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all Test players who can also thrive in T20s,” Uthappa said at the launch of the Australian Summer of Cricket 2025-26.
“Then there’s Sanju Samson. So it’s going to be a challenge figuring out who makes the cut. Fitness will play a key role—you want a fully fit squad going into a World Cup, and I’m sure that’s something the selectors and management will be closely monitoring,” he added.
During IPL 2025, Prabhsimran amassed 549 runs in 17 matches at an average of 32.29 while batting with a strike rate of over 160. His best score was 91.
Priyansh, meanwhile, finished the season with 475 runs in 17 innings at an average of 27.94, while maintaining a strike rate of 179.24. Suryavanshi, who came in towards the latter half of the tournament, accumulated 252 runs in seven matches at an average of 36.00, with a rollicking strike rate of above 206. His 101 in 35 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) was the second-fastest in IPL history.
