After not getting a chance to play for India A against England Lions in the two-match unofficial Test match series, Ruturaj Gaikwad will stay in England despite not being picked in the Shubman Gill-led side for the five-match Test series starting on June 20.
Ruturaj has signed for Yorkshire and will play in the English County Championship for the first time in his career. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Skipper has signed for Yorkshire and play in the red-ball competition as well as the One Day Cup.
Ruturaj will play five County matches for Yorkshire with a clash against Surrey at the North Marine Road Ground from July 22 set to be his first outing. The 28-year-old will also play the entire which will start on 5th August and end on 20th September. Meanwhile, the county championship will conclude on September 27, and Ruturaj will stay with the team for the rest of the season.

Ruturaj Joins Sachin Tendulkar In Elite List

Ruturaj is the fourth Indian to play for Yorkshire in history after Sachin Tendulkar (1992), Yuvraj Singh (2003), and Cheteshwar Pujara (2015 and 2018). Sachin was, infact, the first overseas player to play for the club when he played for them at the age of just 19.
Ruturaj's signing comes at a vital time for Yorkshire as they are battling relegation. Currently, they are in 9th spot in Division 1 with just 59 points. The 33-time champions were promoted to division one last season and will hope to ensure they do not go back down again. Yorkshire are the most successful side in English cricket history.
"I'm excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country, and there is no bigger club in England than Yorkshire.
"I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One-Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware," said Ruturaj on his latest move in a statement issued by
Ruturaj will not just be aiming to ensure Yorkshire finish the season on a high in both formats but also look to make a case for a comeback to the Indian team. He has not played for the national team in any format since the T20I series against Zimbabwe in July last year.
While he has been part of the Test squad on a couple of occasions, he is yet to debut in the longest format. Ruturaj has played six ODIs and 23 T20Is for the Men in Blue.
Ruturaj was included in the India A team for the two-match series against England Lions but did not get the captaincy despite leading on the shadow tour of Australia last year. Ruturaj was benched for both games. He is expected to play in the intra-squad fixture between India A and the senior Indian team but that will be a closed-door game.
The stint with Yorkshire will also mark Ruturaj's comeback after not playing any top-level cricket since 8th April, after being ruled out of the 2025 IPL due to an elbow fracture.
