Joe Root has been enjoying a purple patch in Test cricket in the past few years and he has been unstoppable in the format. The right-handed batsman recently became the fastest batsman to score 13000 Test runs and he could end his career as the highest run-scorer of the format. With 13006 runs, he is presently the fifth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket.
The former England captain has an average of 50.80. His tally includes 36 centuries and 65 fifties. Root, who is just one century away from overtaking Rahul Dravid in the list of batsmen with most Test tons, is close to overtaking him in another list.
Root is just 283 runs away from going past The Wall in the list of batsmen with the most Test runs. The former India captain finished his career with 13288 runs in 164 Tests. One of the two Indian batsmen with more than 10,000 runs in two formats, Dravid averaged 52.31 in Test cricket.
Root can also overtake Jacques Kallis in the upcoming series against India. The South Africa legend finished his career with 13289 runs.
Batsmen with most Test runs
Sachin Tendulkar finished his career as Test cricket's highest run-scorer. The Master Blaster scored 15921 runs in 200 Tests. He hit 51 centuries. Sachin is followed by Ricky Ponting, who scored 13378 runs in 168 Tests. He hit 41 tons. Root is enjoying a dream run in Tests and he could end his career as Test cricket's highest run-scorer.
India vs England series
The India-England Test series will kick off on June 20, with the first Test match taking place in Leeds. The second Test of the series will be played in Birmingham from July 2 to 6. Lord's will host the third Test match from July 10 to 14. Manchester and London will host the last two Tests.
