R Ashwin is busy playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) after the end of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ashwin, who retired from international cricket in December 2024, will continue to play IPL and TNPL. He is representing Dindigul Dragons (DD) in TNPL 2025.
The star India player was furious after being adjudged LBW in TNPL and tried to argue with the umpire. The umpire did not pay heed to Ashwin's actions and continued with her job.
Ashwin had no option but to walk back as DD lost both their reviews in the first over, trying to overturn wide calls. Ashwin slammed himself with the bat on his way back to the pavilion.
Ashwin, who opened the innings with Shivam Singh, departed for 18 off 11 balls. Shivam scored a crucial 30 off 28 balls. Barring him, none of the DD batsmen managed to breach the 20-run mark and they were dismissed for 93 in 16.2 overs.
Ashwin, who opened the bowling with Sandeep Warrier, also struggled with the ball and leaked 28 runs in 2 overs. Tiruppur Tamizhans' Tushar Raheja remained unbeaten on 65 off just 39 balls as they chased down the target of 94 with ease.
With one win from 2 matches, DD are in fifth position in the points table. The Ashwin-led side kicked off its campaign with a win against Lyca Kovai Kings. Ashwin, who opened the batting and bowling in that game as well, scalped 2 wickets for 33 runs.
He scored 15 off 12 balls. Shivam slammed an unbeaten 82 off 50 balls as DD chased down the target of 150 in 17.2 overs. DD will face Madurai Panthers in their next game on June 14. The final of TNPL 2025 is scheduled to be played on July 6.
