Shreyas Iyer, captain of Punjab Kings, was shell-shocked as his team suffered a dramatic collapse at the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on Thursday.

Batting first, Punjab were decimated by a brilliant bowling spell by Josh Hazlewood, who came out firing on all cylinders. Iyer himself scored just 2 runs off 3 balls before falling to Hazlewood, who was playing his first match since the season resumed. On a surface where hitting through the line proved to be tricky, the all-out attack strategy of the Punjab Kings contributed to their downfall after they were put in to bat. Their innings lasted just 14.1 overs.

Amid the fallout of the batting collapse, cameras caught an intense conversation inside the PBKS dressing room between head coach Ricky Ponting and skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl against Punjab Kings.

RCB made one change, bringing in Josh Hazlewood in place of Nuwan Thushara.

For PBKS, Azmatullah Omarzai replaced Marco Jansen.

Incidentally, Punjab Kings are featuring in their first play-off fixture since 2014.
