Musheer Khan etched his name in the history books despite making a duck on his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the first qualifier of the 2025 edition between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh on Thursday (May 29).
Musheer was purchased by PBKS for Rs. 30 Lakhs in the 2025 Mega Auction but did not play a single season. However, he was sent out by the PBKS in a late change of plans after their batting collapse as they lost six wickets with just 60 runs on the board in 8.2 overs.
Musheer was not part of the playing XI but was sent out as an impact sub, which was initially supposed to be a specialist bowler with Vijaykumar Vyshak and Pravin Dubey, the likely options.

Musheer Khan Creates History

This match did not just mark Musheer's IPL debut was also the first T20 game he played in his career, having never played for Mumbai in the shortest format of the game. While Musheer has played nine first-class matches, he had not played white-ball professional cricket as he was yet to make his List A debut too.
Musheer became the first player in history to make his T20 debut in a playoff game. Overall, 84 players have made their debut in the format in the IPL, but no player had previously done it a playoff game.
Infact, Musheer is only the second player in history to make his IPL debut in a playoff game after Sunny Gupta, who played his sole IPL game in the second qualifier in 2012 for Delhi Daredevils against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
While Musheer was dismissed for a three-ball duck, he later bowled two overs in which he took the wicket of Mayank Agarwal while conceding 27 runs. This made him the first player in history to take on his IPL debut in a playoff game.
Interestingly, Sunny also made a duck on his IPL debut but also went wicketless while conceding 47 runs in three overs.
Sunny's debut had sparked criticism towards the Delhi captain as he played Morne Morkel in a call that left many surprised.
Intresingly, Musheer is the brother of Indian star Sarfaraz Khan making the Khan brothers, one of the few siblings to play in the league.
Sri Lankan stars Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka could also make their IPL debuts for Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, respectively, in the eliminator. However, Musheer's record will stay safe as both have not just played T20 cricket past but plenty of international cricket in the shortest format too.
