Ravindra Jadeja is among the players MS Dhoni backed during the early stage of their careers. The star all-rounder made his India debut in less than a year after winning the 2008 U-19 World Cup. Jadeja took his time to cement his place in Team India but there was no looking back for him once he became a regular. Dhoni had a key role to play in Jadeja becoming a regular and he always had the captain's backing.

During an interview with R Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Jadeja was asked to describe Dhoni in one word. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain won the hearts with his response and said: "There is no one word to describe his greatness. He is on top of everyone."

Dhoni saw a future star in Jadeja and CSK bought him in the IPL 2012 mini-auction. He has been with CSK since then. Jadeja moved to Gujarat Lions for IPL 2016 and 2017. Before IPL 2018, CSK made sure that they re-sign the all-rounder prior to the mega-auction.

Jadeja is CSK's fifth-highest run-scorer in IPL with 2198 runs. With 143 scalps, he is CSK's highest wicket-taker. Jadeja's on-field success saw him take over CSK's captaincy before IPL 2022. But he was removed from the top post after the Yellow Army managed 2 wins from 8 matches.

Jadeja stayed with CSK and hit the winning run in their title win in IPL 2023. He was CSK's highest-paid retention before the IPL 2025 mega-auction for Rs 18 crore.

Ravindra Jadeja struggled in IPL 2025 and managed to score 301 runs and scalp 10 wickets in 14 matches. For the first time in history, CSK finished at the last spot in the points table. It was also the first time when they crashed out of the league stage of back-to-back IPL seasons.
