Digvesh Rathi was suspended for one game of IPL 2025 after he accumulated 5 demerit points in the season. Under the IPL rules, 4 demerit points lead to one suspension point, which implies a one-match ban. Digvesh still has one demerit point in his account. He was fined twice before getting banned.
Digvesh was fined for his notebook celebration. He got banned after his on-field confrontation with Abhishek Sharma during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Virender Sehwag came to Digvesh's defence and reminded the fans of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli's on-field offences. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said: "I thought that the ban was a bit harsh. The boy is playing in his first year in the IPL. MS Dhoni had barged into the ground, he was not banned then. Virat Kohli has spoken to umpires in that tone, who knows how many times, he was also not banned. So, Digvesh Rathi could have been spared, because he is a young player, just coming into the scene, could have let that one go."
Dhoni had famously walked onto the field during IPL 2019. He was fined 50 percent of his match fee. At that time as well, Sehwag was critical of Dhoni's act and suggested a ban for him.
