The Govermment of India has announced Operation Shield, which states that mock drills will be held on May 29 in the border states. The union territory of Chandigarh will also hold mock drills on the evening of Thursday. This mock drill coincides with the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1, which is set to be held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh). It is to be played between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (PBKS) to determine who will qualify for the final on June 3.
Will Mock Drill Affect IPL 2025 Qualifier 1?
While it is certain that the mock drills will be held on May 29 in Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, and Gujarat, Punjab might be holding it on a different date. According to a report by The Indian Express, Punjab is likely to conduct mock drills under Operation Shield on May 3. Even though Chandigarh will have mock drills on that day being a Union Territory, it might not happen in Mullanpur, where the stadium in located.
This is because they fall under the jurisdiction of the Government of Punjab. Since the state might not observe any sort of Mock Drill on that day, there are no chances of a blackout. Hence, the match will take place as usual.
